EN 50563:2011 – External a.c. – d.c. and a.c. – a.c. power supplies – Determination of no-load power and average efficiency of active modes
4 Information and instructions for use
4.1 Information to be provided on or with the ex ternal power supply
The i nf orm ation below shall either be marked on eac h externa l power supply or contained in documentatio n provided with eac h external powe r supply:
• rated output voltage, in V,
• symbo l ind ica ting whethe r the output voltage is a.c. or d.c .,
• rated output cu rrent, in A for cu rre nt s 2: 1 A and in mA for cur r ents < 1 A,
• ra ted output power, in W as an al ternative rTlarking of the rated output current.
Both the r ated output power and the rated output cu rren t shall be pr ov ided if the rated o utput current multip lied by the rated output voltage differs from the rated output power by more than +/- 5 %.
Wh ere the rated output voltage is user-selectab l e, each selectable output voltage shall be I dentified and delineated by a solidus .
EXAMPLE 61 91 1 2 V
The rated output voltage shall be associated with the symbo l for the nature of the supp l y, wh ich
• for a d.c . output voltage , shall be symbo l 5031 of lEG 6041 7,
• for an a. c. output voltage. shall be symbo l 5032 of l EG 6041 7.
EXAMPLE Equ i pmen t hav i ng a 1 2 v d.c. output would be marked .
The rated output cur r ent shall be give n for each output voltage . The order of marking the output
cu rrent shall correspond to the output voltage .
EXAMP LE An external p ow er su pp ly hav ing a ral ed output power 01 20 Wand rated output volt ages 01 61 91 1 2 V would have ra ted output current 01 3.31 2.21 1 .7 A.
4.2 In s tructions for use
Each external powe r supply shall be provided with inst ruct ions for use that describe the pr oducts that the exte rnal power supp ly is compatib le with, or the characteristics of the product-load that the externa l power supply is compatib le with . This requirement does not apply if the external powe r supply is packaged or otherwise supp lied togethe r with a dedicated productload.
If the external powe r supply au tomatica lly adj usts its output to be compatible with ce rtain supplyloads. this f act and the mea ns of detection shall be stated. EXAMPLE 1 An extern31 power su pply mOly h3ve differen t conn e ctors . e3ch sp ecifi c to 3 p3 rt icular product.load . such th3t when a use r fits a specific connector the output vo l tage adj ust s automatical ly.
EXAMPLE 2 An externa l power supp ly may signal the produ ct-load via a data path before appl ying a spe:ific output voltage and lor cur r ent.
5 General conditions for measurement
5.1 General Unless oth erwise specified, measu r ements shal l be made unde r test conditions and with equipme nt specified in EN 50564 . Tes ts speci fied in this standa rd are made on an extern al power supply that is representative of the externa l power supply the user would receive. 5.2 Test room The requi rem ents of EN 50564 - 201 1 , 4.2 apply .
